Before installation
Check the following before you begin installation:
Check that the required network environment for adding the printer to the selected computer has been set up.
The network environment should be as follows:
- OS: Windows 95/98/98SE/Me
- Connection mode: TCP/IP LPD, Port9100
- Service client: -
- Protocol: TCP/IP
- OS: Windows NT 4.0
- Connection mode: TCP/IP LPD
- Service client: F Microsoft TCP/IP printing
- Protocol: TCP/IP
- OS: Windows 2000/XP, or Windows Server 2003
- Connection mode: Standard TCP/IP Port, Port9100
- Service client: -
- Protocol: Internet protocol (TCP/IP)
- Note
- Check the following before you use the TCP/IP protocol:
- Windows 95/98/Me:
- Use the Xerox "TCP/IP Direct Print Utility (TCP/IP Protocol)" to print. The TCP/IP Direct Print Utility is installed together with the print driver on the computer.
Before you install the TCP/IP Direct Print Utility, check that the "TCP/IP Protocol" has already been installed on the selected computer. If not, refer to the customer documentation for Windows 95/98/Me and install it.
- Windows NT 4.0:
- Check that the "TCP/IP Protocol" and "Microsoft TCP/IP Printing" have already been installed on the selected computer. If not, refer to the customer documentation for Windows NT 4.0 and install them.
- Windows 2000/XP or Windows Server 2003:
- Check that "Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)" has already been installed. If not, refer to the customer documentation for Windows 2000/XP or Windows Server 2003 and install it.
Check with your administrator to confirm the following:
- a. Target printer is connected via TCP/IP, and the SNMP (UDP) port is activated
- b. IP address is specified in the target printer
- Note
-
- Automatic search will not be carried out for a printer that does not satisfy condition a.
- If condition b is not known, the target printer cannot be specified when more than one printer of the same type are found. (If all the printers found are to be specified for printing, it does not matter if the IP addresses of the individual printers are not known.)
