1. Purpose
----------
The purpose of this Readme is to enable Technicians and 
System Administrators to upgrade a Document Centre
555/545/535 Digital Copier to software version 0.27.018.000.

The upgrade process may take up to 20 minutes. The Document
Centre will be inoperable during this time.

Before starting any part of the upgrade, please make sure that
the Document Centre is free of faults and jams by making
a few copies.


2. Upgrade Requirements
-----------------------
To perform this upgrade, the following will be required:

a. The DC_027-18-000-bot-c.ugd file

b. A PC with Xerox Utilities Tool installed, which 
   must be at version 01.00.0000 or later. To check the version, 
   select Start/Programs/Xerox Utilities Tool/Readme; the 
   version number is shown at the top of the Readme file.

   A copy of the Utilities is supplied with each Document Centre
   machine. Updates are available from www.xerox.com.
   
c. A type A-B USB cable of 1.5m length or less.


3. Upgrade Process
-------------------
a. On the back of the Document Centre, remove the small, square
   plastic cover from the USB port, and connect the USB cable
   betwen the Document Centre and the PC.

b. Ensure that the Document Centre is powered on, with the 
   Graphical User Interface (GUI) displaying 'Ready - Select 
   Features to scan your job'.

   If the PC gives a message saying it has detected new hardware,
   refer to the ReadMe file on the Xerox Utilities install disk.

c. Launch the Xerox software upgrade utility SoftwareUpg.exe   

d. A window will appear on the PC, warning that jobs in the job 
   queue will be lost; click "OK".

   Another window then opens saying "Preparing the Xerox machine
   for software upgrade"; it should stay for approximately two 
   minutes.

   A window on the PC will then display the software currently
   installed on the Document Centre.

e. To proceed with the upgrade, click on the "Select File" 
   button on the PC; this will display a file browser. 

f. Locate and select the file DC_027-18-000-bot-c.ugd.

   The Utilities will analyse the selected file and then display the
   system software version number about to be downloaded 
   (i.e. 0.27.018.000).

g. Select "Upgrade" to confirm you want to install this software
   version.

   After a few seconds, the files will begin to download.  A 
   message "Software Upgrade in progress" will appear on the 
   Document Centre GUI. This window will show the upgrade 
   progress of all relevant modules on the Document Centre 
   machine.

   The system will automatically re-boot after the upgrade has 
   finished. A status report window will be displayed on the PC.
   Click on the "OK" button to close the window.

   If any module is shown as having failed, close the Utilities and 
   re-boot the machine (it will re-boot into upgrade mode).  
   Re-launch the Utilities and restart the upgrade.

h. Confirm the new software version by pressing the Machine 
   Status hard key on the Document Centre GUI, then selecting 
   the "Machine Details" button. This displays the System 
   Software Version number, which should be 0.27.018.000.

   
The Document Centre is now ready for use
