Make Sure SMart eSolutions is Configured Correctly Using CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS)

IMPORTANT: Auto Supplies Replenishment (ASR) requires device connectivity. If a device loses connectivity, ASR will cease and the customer will need to place manual supplies orders. Once connectivity is reestablished, the process for automatic delivery of supplies is re-initiated in Europe with no further customer intervention. In US and Canada, ASR will resume once a manual order (phone or web) is placed after reconnection. For questions regarding ASR, contact your regional metered supplies help desk.

NOTE: Users may be required to login as a System Administrator to view or modify settings within CWIS. If prompted, login using the System Administrator username and password. The default username is "admin", and the default password is "1111".

  1. From a computer, open an Internet browser window.

  2. Enter the IP address of the machine in the Address field, and then press [Enter] on the keyboard.

  3. Click on [SMart eSolutions] in the Status section on the left side of the page.

  4. View the status displayed for SMart eSolutions in the Device Communication Status area.

    • If a "Fully Configured and Communicating with Xerox" message is displayed, the setup has been successful. No further action is required.

    • If a "Communication Failure" message is displayed, continue with step 5.

      NOTE: Communication failure may be due to the use of a proxy server for Internet access. The proxy server must be setup to allow SMart eSolutions.

  5. Click on [Settings] in the Device Communication Status area.

  6. If a proxy server is not required, skip to step 15.  When a proxy server is required for your network:

    • If "Not Configured" is displayed for the HTTP Proxy Server, continue with step 7.

    • If "Configured" is displayed for the HTTP Proxy Server, skip to step 15.

  7. Click on the [Configure] button in the Communication Setup area. The Proxy Server window will be displayed.

    NOTE: Machines cannot be connected directly with a proxy server that requires authorization or authentication (login and/or password). If authorization or authentication is required, proxy connectivity software, Xerox Device Agent (XDA) or CentreWare Web must be used.

  8. Make sure the [Enable] check box for Auto Detect Proxy Settings is not selected. If the check box is selected, remove the mark.

  9. Select the [Enabled] check box for HTTP Proxy Server.

  10. Select either the [IP Address] or [Host Name] radio button for Name or IP Address.

  11. Enter the IP address and port number in the IP Address and Port field, or the host name and port number in the Host Name and Port field.

  12. Leave the Exception List field blank.

  13. Click on the [Apply] button. An acknowledgment message will be displayed. Click on [OK].

  14. Click on [SMart eSolutions] in the Properties / General Setup menu and make sure "Configured" is displayed for the HTTP Proxy Server.

    NOTE: If "Configured" is not displayed, check the steps again or contact Support for additional assistance.

  15. Click on the [Test Communication Now] button to test communication with the Xerox Communication Server. The machine will try to establish communication with the Xerox Communication Server. This may take several minutes.

    • If communication is established, a "Communication with Xerox successful" message will be displayed. Skip to step 30.

    • If a communication error message is displayed, or the Communication Test window is displayed for more than a few minutes (maximum 5 minutes), communication has failed.  Continue with step 16.

  16. Under the Properties tab, navigate to Connectivity > Protocols > TCP/IP.  Click on [TCP/IP)].

  17. Check that the correct details are entered for:

    • Gateway Address

    • Domain Name

    • Preferred (Primary) DNS Server

      NOTE: If the IP Address Resolution is set to “DHCP” the above values will be automatically populated.  If it is set to STATIC, they will need to be entered.

  18. Make sure that the Self Assigned Address and Multicast DNS [Enabled] check boxes in the Zero Configuration Networking area are selected (enabled).

  19. If any changes were made in steps 17 and 18, click on the [Test Communication Now] button to test communication with the Xerox Communication Server. The machine will try to establish communication with the Xerox Communication Server. This may take several minutes. If changes were not made in step 17 and 18, continue with step 20.

    • If communication is established, a "Communication with Xerox successful" message will be displayed. Skip to step 30.

    • If a communication error message is displayed, or the Communication Test window is displayed for more than a few minutes (maximum 5 minutes), communication has failed.  Continue with step 21.

  20. Click on [HTTP] in the Properties tab / Connectivity / Protocols menu:

    • If HTTP Security Mode is “Enable SSL”, and the previous communication test failed, then contact Support for additional assistance.

    • If HTTP Security Mode is not enabled, a Machine Digital Certificate must be created.

  21. Click on [Machine Digital Certificate] in the Properties tab / Security menu. The Machine Digital Certificate Management window will be displayed.

  22. Click on the [Create New Certificate] button.

  23. Click on the [Self Signed Certificate] radio button.

  24. Click on the [Continue] button. Enter the applicable certificate information:

    • 2 Letter Country Code

    • State/Province Name

    • Locality Name (Company Name)

    • Organization Name (Business Group Name)

    • Organization Unit (Type of Business Name)

    • Common Name (Appears by default)

    • E-mail Address

    • Days of Validity

      NOTE: It is recommended that the Days of Validity is set to 9999 - the maximum available value.

  25. Click on the [Apply] button. A confirmation that the certificate has been created will be displayed.

  26. Click on [HTTP] in the Properties / Connectivity / Protocols menu. If required:

    1. Select [Enable SSL] for the HTTP Security Mode and check that the port number is set to 80.

    2. Click on the [Apply] button.

  27. Click on [SMart eSolutions] in the Properties / General Setup menu.

  28. Click on the [Test Communication Now] button to test communication with the Xerox Communication Server. The machine will try to establish communication with the Xerox Communication Server. This may take several minutes.

    • If communication is established, a "Communication with Xerox successful" message will be displayed. Continue with step 30.

    • If a communication error message is displayed, or the Communication Test window is displayed for more than a few minutes (maximum 5 minutes), communication has failed. Contact Support for additional assistance.

  29. Select the Status tab and click on [SMart eSolutions].

  30. Make sure that a "Fully Configured & Communicating with Xerox" message is displayed for SMart eSolutions in the DeviceCommunication Status area.

    NOTE: If a "Test Communication Fail" message is displayed, contact Support for additional assistance.
