The purpose of this document is to enable System Administrators to configure the printer to communicate with the Xerox SMart eSolutions Server. This service will enable Automated Meter Reading and Automatic Supplies Replenishment.

IMPORTANT: Communication with the Xerox SMart eSolutions Server will fail if DNS has not been enabled and configured properly or if the date, time, or GMT offset (time zone) settings are incorrect. Make sure these settings have been configured properly before continuing with this solution. See the Related Content section for additional information.

Enable Xerox SMart eSolutions communications:

  1. Open CWIS. See the Related Content section for additional information.

  2. Click on [Properties] at the top of the window.

  3. Click on [General Setup] to expand the list of options.

  4. Click on [SMart eSolutions Setup].

  5. Click on the [Enrolled] radio button.

  6. Enter the time of day for the printer to perform its daily communication with Xerox in the Daily Transmission Time fields.

  7. Click on the [Apply] button to save the settings and continue with the next section.

Configure the HTTP Proxy Server:

When attempting to connect to the SMart eSolutions Server without the use of a Proxy Server, communications will fail. As a workaround, configure the Proxy Server:

  1. Click on the [Configure] button.

NOTE: If the Proxy Server has already been configured, an Edit button will be displayed instead of a Configure button. Click on the Edit button, make sure the settings are correct, and then continue with step 4.

  2. Click on the [Enabled] check box.

  3. Click on the [IPv4 Address], [IPv6 Address], or [Host Name] radio button, and then enter your Proxy Server Address or Host Name and the port number in the fields provided.

  4. Click on the [Save] button to save the settings and return to the previous screen.

Validate that the printer is communicating with the Xerox SMart eSolutions

  1. Click on the [Test Communication Now] button. A status message will be displayed indicating if the printer is able to communicate with Xerox.

If communication is successful, the following solutions are available.

Automatic Meter Reads (MeterAssistant)

MeterAssistant automatically submits meter reads to Xerox from network printers. This process eliminates the need to collect and report meter read information manually.

To view the last transmission of Billing Meter information for the printer:

  1. Open CWIS. See the Related Content section for additional information.

  2. Click on [Status] at the top of the window.

  3. Click on [SMart eSolutions].

  4. Click on the [MeterAssistant] tab. The number of Black, Color, and Total impressions will be displayed.

NOTE: If "0" (zero) is listed for the count, then no data has been transmitted to Xerox.

Automatic Supplies Replenishment (SuppliesAssistant)

SuppliesAssistant pro-actively manages ink/toner supplies for network equipment, and monitors actual usage.

To view the current supplies status:

  1. Open CWIS. See the Related Content section for additional information.

  2. Click on [Status] at the top of the window.

  3. Click on [SMart eSolutions].

  4. Click on the [SuppliesAssistant] tab. A list of printer components and the percentage of life remaining for those components will be displayed.

NOTE: If "Unknown" is listed as the % Life Remaining, then no data has been transmitted to Xerox.
