Install a Print Driver (Add the Printer) on a Computer With Microsoft Windows 7 to Print Using a Standard TCP/IP Port

NOTE: This solution requires knowledge of the network on which the printer is installed and may require the assistance of a System Administrator. If necessary, contact your System Administrator.

If necessary, print a Configuration Report to make sure the printer has an IP Address and the Line Printer Daemon (LPD) is enabled. See the Related Content section for additional information.

This solution assumes that the correct print driver for this product and the Operating System being used has been downloaded and extracted to a known location on the hard drive. If necessary, click on the Drivers & Downloads link on this window to download a print driver.

Create a Standard TCP/IP Port and install the print driver:

  1. Open the Printers or Printers and Faxes window. See the Related Content section for additional information.
  2. Select Add a Printer from the menu.
  3. Click on the Add a Local Printer option.
  4. Click on the Create a New Port radio button.
  5. Select Standard TCP/IP Port from the pull-down menu.
  6. Click Next.
  7. Enter the IP Address of the printer in the Hostname or IP Address field.

    NOTE: Remove the check mark from the Query the printer and automatically select the driver to use check box.

  8. Click Next.
  9. Click on the Standard radio button.
  10. Make sure the Generic Network Card option is selected in the pull-down menu.
  11. Click Next.
  12. Select Xerox from the list of manufacturers.
  13. Click on the Have Disk button. The Install from Disk window will be displayed.
  14. Click on the Browse button. The Locate File window will be displayed.
  15. Browse to the location where the driver files are located in the Look In menu.
  16. Select the setup info file (.inf), and then click on Open.
  17. Click OK.
  18. Select the printer model from the list of printers, and then click Next.
  19. If necessary, enter a printer name or use the default printer name, and then click Next.
  20. Select the Do not share this printer radio button, and then click Next.
  21. If necessary, click to insert a check mark in the Set as the default printer check box if this is to be the default printer.
  22. Click Finish.
