Product support for
  • WC5790 Family
  • WorkCentre® 5700 Series
  • WorkCentre™ 5765/5775/5790

There are two methods to upgrade the system software on the printer: Auto Upgrade and Manual Upgrade. This solution will explain the necessary steps to upgrade using Auto Upgrade.

  • Auto Upgrade allows a System Administrator to schedule a time to upgrade the Workcentre.  It is useful if many machines need to be upgraded.  The upgrade may be controlled to make it more manageable.
  • Manual Upgrade allows a System Administrator to immediately upgrade the system software.   It is useful if there is a limited number of machines to upgrade or if an upgrade is necessary during the course of troubleshooting an issue.

The upgrade or reload will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. The printer cannot be used during this time.

If the LDAP feature for Scan to E-mail or Network Authentication is being used, you may experience issues using these features following the software upgrade or reload. If issues occur, contact Support for additional assistance.

The Auto Upgrade feature uses FTP to access the .dlm file.   Auto Upgrade uses CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS) to upgrade the system software.

NOTE: The IP address of the printer to be upgraded is required to perform this solution.  If necessary, print a Configuration Report to obtain the IP address. The printer must be configured for TCP/IP (IP address, Subnet Mask, Broadcast address, and Gateway address). See the Related Content for additional information.

NOTE: This solution assumes Microsoft Internet Explorer is being used as the web browser. If other browsers are used, the steps may vary.

To upgrade the system software using the Auto Upgrade method:

  1. From the computer, open an Internet browser window.
  2. Enter the IP address of the printer in the Address field, and then press [Enter] on the keyboard. The CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS) window will be displayed.
  3. Click on the [Properties] tab.
  4. Enter the user name and password in the fields provided, and then click on the [Login] button.

NOTE: The default username is "admin" (case sensitive), and the default password is "1111".

  5. Click on the [General Setup] link to expand the selection.
  6. Click on the [Machine Software] link.

  9. Select the [Hourly] or [Daily] radio button from the Refresh Start Time section.

NOTE: If Daily is selected, enter a time in the fields provided, and then select either [AM] or [PM] from the pull-down menu.

  10. Click on the [IPv4 Address], [IPv6 Address], or [Host Name] radio button.
  11. Enter the IP address and Port number in the IP Address: Port field or the host name in the Host Name: Port field.
  12. Enter a username and password to access the file on the computer where the .dlm file is stored in the Login Name, Password, and Retype Password fields.
  13. If necessary, click on the [Select to save new password] check box to insert a check mark.
  14. Click on [Apply]. A "Properties have been successfully modified" message will be displayed.
  15. Click on [OK].
  16. Click on the [Logout] link and logout of CWIS.
  17. Close the browser window. The system software will be upgraded at the time specified in step 9.
