Configure DNS Settings Using the Embedded Web Server

Domain Name System (DNS) is a system that maps host names to IP addresses.

  1. Log in to the Embedded Web Server as administrator. See the Related Content for additional information.
  2. Select Properties.
  3. Select Connectivity.
  4. Select Edit to the right of the Active Profile, Wired Connection or Xerox Wireless Network Interface
  5. Select Edit to the right of IP (Internet Protocol). 
  6. In the Connections area, click Ethernet.
  7. Select Show DNS Settings to the right of DNS.
  8. Enter the Domain Name.
  9. Type a unique name for your printer. If the host name registers to the DNS server successfully, the host name appears as a Verified Host Name. The default host name is XRXxxx, where xxx is the MAC address of the printer.
  10. Print a Configuration Report to find the Mac address of the printer. See the Related Content for additional information.

    NOTE: If no host name appears on the network, the host name did not register to the DNS server successfully.
    In this case, request that the network administrator configure the DHCP server to perform updates on behalf of the DHCP clients.

  11. For Connection Timeout, type the amount of time to wait before the connection times out, valid times are between 5 and 60 seconds.
  12. Only select the Enabled for Multicast DNS Registration if the Xerox Printer is within a small network that does not include a local name server. It is a zero-configuration service. NO

    NOTE: The multicast DNS (mDNS) protocol resolves host names to IP addresses
  13. Only Select Enabled for Release this connection's DHCP leases and DNS registrations (via DHCP) if applicable to your network configuration.
  14. Enter the required DNS Server IP addresses under Additional DNS Server Addresses (in IPv4 and IPv6 address format.
    • Type the IP address of the primary DNS server.
    • Type the IP address or the alternate DNS server.
    • Type the IP address or the second alternate DNS server
  15. Speak with the Network Administrator to determine if Append Device Domain and Append Parent Domains should be enabled.
  16. Select Apply.
  17. You may now close the web browser.
