Change the System Administrator Password

For network printers, when you first access Xerox CentreWare Internet Services (CWIS) or the Control Panel after printer installation (or sometimes after the printer has been serviced), you will be prompted to change the default system administrator password.  The initial default password can be 1111 or the serial number of the printer, which can be found on the serial number label on the back of the printer.

IMPORTANT: Xerox recommends that you change the default system administrator password after you configure the printer. Be sure to store the password in a secure location. 

Note:  Passwords must be between 4 - 32 characters in length, and the following characters can be used:

    • Letters: a - z, A - Z
    • Numbers: 0 - 9
    • Special Characters: @ / . ‘ & + - # * , _ % ( ) !

To change the System Administrator Password using Xerox CentreWare Internet Services:

To access CWIS, you must provide a new password for the system administrator account..

  1. In Xerox CentreWare Internet Services, click Properties.
  2. Click Maintenance > Administrator Password.
  3. Enter the default administrator password in the Password field. The password is case sensitive. 

    Note: Depending on when the device was manufactured, the default password may be the device serial number or 1111.  

  4. Enter a new administrator password in the New Password field. Make sure to use a strong, unique password.
  5. Enter the new password again in the Verify Password field.
  6. Click Save. A Password updated successfully message will display. 

To change the System Administrator Password at the Control Panel:

  1. At the printer control panel, press the Machine Status button.
  2. Enter the system administrator user name.
  3. Enter the default administrator password and select OK. The password is case sensitive. 

    Note: Depending on when the device was manufactured, the default password may be the device serial number or 1111.  

  4. A Change Admin Password screen displays prompting you to change the default password.  Select Change Password.
  5. Enter the old password in the field provided.
  6. Enter a new administrator password in the New Password field. Make sure to use a strong, unique password.
  7. Enter the new password again in the Verify Password field.
  8. Select OK. A Password updated successfully message will display.
