Note: Before solving the problem, print the Print Quality Test Pages. From the control panel, navigate to Settings > Troubleshooting > Print Quality Test Pages. For non-touch-screen printer models, press OK to navigate through the settings.

  1. Check if the printer is using a genuine and supported Xerox toner cartridge.

Note: If the cartridge is not supported, then install a supported one. For details, refer to Replace the Toner Cartridge.

  2. Print the document. If the file does not print successfully, proceed with step 3.

  3. Turn off the printer, wait for about 10 seconds, and then turn on the printer.

  4. Increase toner darkness. From the control panel, navigate to: Settings > Print > Quality > Toner Darkness.

  5. Print the document. If the file does not print successfully, proceed with step 6.

  6. Depending on your operating system, specify the paper type from the Printing Preferences or Print dialog.

    1. Make sure that the setting matches the paper loaded.

    2. You can also change the setting on the printer control panel. Navigate to Settings > Paper > Tray Configuration > Paper Size/Type.

  7. Print the document. If the file does not print successfully, proceed with step 8.

  8. Depending on your operating system, specify the print resolution from the Printing Preferences or Print dialog.

  9. Set the resolution to 600 dpi.

  10. Print the document. If the file does not print successfully, proceed with step 11.

  11. Remove the Image Unit. For details, refer to Remove and Reinsert the Imaging Unit.

CAUTION: Exposure to direct sunlight or strong indoor fluorescent lighting for more than two minutes may cause damage to the Imaging Unit causing print quality problems. Cover the surface of the Imaging Unit if the unit will be exposed to light for longer periods exceeding two minutes.

CAUTION: Do not touch the photoconductor drum under the imaging unit. Doing so may affect the quality of future print jobs.

  12. Firmly shake the imaging unit to redistribute the toner.

CAUTION: Do not use warm water or cleaning solvents to remove toner from your skin or clothing. This will set the toner and make it difficult to remove. If any toner gets on your skin or clothing, use a brush to remove the toner, or wash it off with cold water and mild soap.

  13. Insert the imaging unit. For details, refer to Remove and Reinsert the Imaging Unit

  14. Turn off the printer, wait for 10 seconds, and then turn on the printer.

  15. Print the document. If the file does not print successfully, proceed with step 16.

  16. Check the status of the toner cartridge. From the control panel, navigate to: Settings > Reports > Device > Device Statistics.

  17. From the Supply Information section of the pages printed, check the status of the toner cartridge. If the toner cartridge is near end of life , proceed with step 18.

  18. Replace the Toner Cartridge.
