Consumables

The consumables for this printer consist of the Xerox Toner and Staple cartridges.

Caution: If you attempt to use a non-Xerox toner or drum cartridge, it may not fit properly in the printer. If the cartridge does not fit properly, the printer will not function.

Understanding Usage Patterns

The Phaser 5500 Laser Printer has supply life indicators for consumables. Toner Cartridge print life ratings are based on 5% area coverage. The toner cartridge has a print life of 30,000 copies.  The Staple Cartridge capacity is 5,000 staples.

The following usage patterns will accelerate the consumption of the consumables.

  • Using paper that is larger than Letter or A4 only if toner coverage is greater than 5%.
  • Using higher than five percent coverage.
  • Printing short-edge feed only if toner coverage is greater than 5%.
  • Printing transparencies, card stock, or other specialty media only if toner coverage is greater than 5%.

Routine Maintenance Items

The routine maintenance items are printer parts or assemblies that have a limited life requiring periodic replacement. Replacements may be in the form of parts or kits. Routine Maintenance Items are typically customer replaceable.

The routine maintenance items for the Phaser 5500 Laser Printer are the maintenance kit and drum cartridge. Print the Supplies Usage Page from the printer's front panel, CentreWare IS, or print the Usage Profile from the printer's front panel to see the remaining life for the maintenance kit.

The Maintenance Kit (consisting of a fuser, transfer roller, and 15 feed rollers) has a print life of up to 300,000 prints.

Understanding Usage Patterns

The Phaser 5500 Laser Printer has supply life indicators for routine maintenance items. The following usage patterns will accelerate the consumption of the Maintenance Kit.

  • Using paper that is larger than Letter or A4..
  • Printing short-edge feed.
  • Printing transparencies, card stock, or other specialty media (may affect feed roller or fuser roller surface life and will not impact cycle or print count).

The following usage patterns may significantly reduce Drum Cartridge Life (the Drum Cartridge has a print life of up to 60,000 copies):

  • Printing jobs with fewer than four pages
  • Using paper that is larger than letter or A4 paper
  • Printing with the paper loaded short edge feed
  • Turning the Printer off and on (continuous power cycles)
  • Automatic two-sided printing (feeding to Standard Output Tray when Finisher/Stacker option is installed)
  • Using higher than 5% area coverage
  • Printing transparencies, card stock, or other special media
