Setup the .NET Smart Card Authentication Plug-in

Smart Card Authentication card readers activate integrated circuits embedded within the cards. These integrated circuit (IC) cards are usually inserted into the reader to provide power to the circuit.

To use a USB connected card reader in combination with Xerox Smart Card Authentication you must install and activate a plug-in specific to the type of Smart Card that will be used.

Supported Smart Card types include: 

  • CAC/PIV Smart Cards

  • .NET Smart Cards

To set up the .NET Smart Card Authentication Plug-in:

  1. Extract all files from the zip file to a convenient location on your computer.

  2. On the device webpage, select Log In, and then log in to the device as Admin.

  3. Click on System.

  4. Click on Plug-in Settings.

  5. Select the CCID Terminal Plug-in from the list of plug-ins to highlight it.

  6. Click on Details (Above the list).

  7. Click on Update.

    NOTE: You should always update to the latest available version of this plug-in.

  8. Browse to the location of the CCID_Terminal_Plugin_v0.9.5_sig.jar file you previously extracted from the .zip file.

  9. Click OK.

  10. Click Close.

  11. Click on Add, browse to the location of the GemNetSmartCardService-1.0.18.jar file you previously extracted from the .zip file, and then click OK.

  12. Click Close.

  13. Select the CCID Terminal Plug-in again from the list of plug-ins to highlight it.

  14. Select Activate.

  15. Select the GemNetSmartCardService from the list of Plug-Ins to highlight it.

  16. Click on Activate.

  17. Ensure that the CAC & PIV Smartcard Service plug-in is Disabled if installed.

    NOTE: The .NET and CAC/PIV plug-ins must not be active at the same time.

  18. Connect your USB .NET Smart Card reader device at this time.

  19. Reboot the printer to activate the plug-in. Click on Home and then select Support > Restart Device from the Quick Link section.

  20. You can now select and configure Smart Card Authentication through the device webpage by clicking on Permissions > Login/Logout Settings.
