Color registration can be adjusted manually by a user, or automatically by the printer. The color registration can be fine tuned by performing a manual adjustment. Color registration should be adjusted any time the printer is moved.

NOTE: By default, an automatic color registration adjustment is performed every time a new Print Cartridge is installed. If this feature is not required, disable the Automatic Color Registration option. See the Related Content for additional information.

To perform a manual color registration adjustment:

  1. Print a Color Registration Correction Chart:
    1. Press the [System] button on the Control Panel. The Setup screen will be displayed.
    2. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Admin' is selected, and then press the [OK] button.
    3. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Maintenance' is selected, and then press the [OK] button.
    4. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Adjust Color Regi' is selected, and then press the [OK] button.
    5. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Color Regi Chart' is selected, and then press the [OK] button. The Color Registration Chart will print and the machine will automatically exit the System menu.
  2. Determine the best adjustment values:
    1. On the Color Registration Chart, lines will be displayed to the right of the Y (yellow), M (magenta), and C (cyan) bars. Some lines will be straight, and other lines will be jagged. For each color, find the straightest line. A value from -9 to +9 will be listed next to each line.

NOTE: The densest colors of the grid can also be used to find the straightest lines. The colors printed at the highest density are those next to the straight lines.

    2. Record the value (-9 to +9) to the right of the straightest line. This number indicates the best adjustment value for that color.

NOTE: When 0 is the value of the straightest line, the color registration does not need to be adjusted. If the value is anything other than 0, continue with step 3 to enter adjustment values.

  3. Enter the adjustment values:
    5. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Color Regi' is selected, and then press the [OK] button.
    6. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until the color to be adjusted is selected, and then press the [OK] button.
    7. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until the required value (-9 to +9) is displayed, and then press the [OK] button to adjust the value.

NOTE: The 0 values that are displayed after each color selection in step 3f will always display 0, even when the settings are changed. For example, if a value other than 0 was selected in step 3g and then confirmed by pressing the [OK] button, the machine will automatically replace the current 0 value with the new value; however, the ColorRegi menu will still display the new value as 0. Additionally, when the value is changed, there is no message indicating that the change occurred. However, the results of the change will be reflected on the new Color Registration Chart that will be printed in step 4.

    8. Repeat steps 3f and 3g to adjust the color registration for the remaining colors.
    9. Press the [Exit] button once to return to the first level of the Color Registration Menu.
  4. Print another Color Registration Chart:
    1. Press the [Up] or [Down] arrow button until 'Color Regi Chart' is selected, and then press the [OK] button.
    2. Press the [OK] button again. The Color Registration Correction Chart will be printed with the new values and the machine will automatically exit the System menu.
  5. View the new Color Registration Chart. If the straightest yellow, magenta, and cyan lines are next to the 0 line, the color registration adjustment is complete. If 0 is not displayed next to the straightest lines, repeat steps 2 - 5.

NOTE: After printing the Color Registration Correction Chart, do not power OFF the printer until the printer motor has stopped running.
