Enable SMart eSolutions on a Xerox 550|560|570 With a Built-in Controller or a Digital Front End (DFE)

IMPORTANT: Follow the instructions for the appropriate configuration:  stand alone or with the applicable DFE.  Then proceed with the instructions for Enabling Remote Services.

Configuration:  Built-in controller (no DFE), and FreeFlow and Creo Print Server Configurations, and Fiery in network switch mode (where the device has its own IP address).

  1. Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the device in the Location or Address field.

  2. Click [Enter]. The device Internet Services screen is displayed.

  3. Proceed to the instructions to Enable Remote Services.

Configuration:  External Fiery or Integrated Fiery in the direct mode (device is communicating to the network via the Fiery).  Note:  In this configuration the device’s  IP Address is 100.100.100.101.

  1.  Connect to the Fiery either by entering the IP address of the Fiery in a web browser, or by accessing the Command Workstation (if installed)

  2. Select the [Configuration] tab.  Click [Launch Configure]  If a Java message appears, click [Run].

  3. Login as Administrator. The default password is Fiery.1   If a security message appears, click [Don’t Block].

  4. Navigate to Network>Protocol>TCP/IP>DNS.

  5. Select [DNS].

  6. Enter the Primary DNS Server IP Address, the Secondary DNS Server IP Address and Domain Name (DNS Suffix) if used.

  7. Click [Apply].

  8. Reboot the Fiery.

  9. Access the Internet Services Home Page.  Open a web browser and enter the IP address of the Fiery, in the Location or Address field.

  10. Click [Enter]. The Fiery home page is displayed.

  11. The Fiery has been configured. Click the link in the bottom right corner of the screen.  (The link will read either “Xerox Color XC560 Printer” or “Xerox CentreWare”.) The device Internet Services page will appear. Proceed to the instructions to Enable Remote Services on the device.

Enable Remote Services

NOTE: The configuration instructions for the appropriate DFE must be completed before continuing with these steps.

  1. From the device’s CentreWare Internet Services page, click the [Properties] tab.

  2. If prompted, enter the user ID and password of the device administrator account. The default user ID is admin and the default password is 1111.  Click [Login]. The Properties tab will be displayed.

  3. Click the [Properties] tab.

  4. In the menu on the left, navigate to Connectivity>Protocols>TCP/IP.

  5. Click [TCP/IP].

  6. In the Domain Name area, enter the Domain Name.

  7. If DHCP is being used, in the DNS Configuration area, check the Enabled box next to Obtain the DNS Server Address Automatically.  Or,enter the IP Address of the DNS Server(s) in the Preferred DNS Server and Alternate DNS Servers fields, as required.

  8. Make sure that the Enable box next to Dynamic DNS Registration is checked If it is not, check the box.

  9. Check the box next to enable Generate Domain Search List Automatically, if required.

  10. Enter the alternative Domain Names as required in the Domain Name 1, Domain Name 2 and Domain Name 3 fields.

  11. Enter the Connection Timeout if required.

  12. Click [Apply]. The machine will require a reboot to change the settings and a dialog box will appear asking to reboot the machine. Click [Reboot Machine].

  13. In the Internet Services Properties menu, navigate to General Setup> SMart eSolutions> Registration.

  14. Click [Registration].

  15. If a proxy server is used, in the Setup Steps area, click [Enable Proxy Server].  If a proxy server is not used, skip ahead to step 22.

  16. Check the [Enabled] box next to Use Proxy Server.

  17. In the Proxy Setup menu, leave the setting on the default of Same Proxy for All Protocols, or select Different Proxy for each Protocol if a different proxy server address is used according to the protocol on the network (HTTP, HTTPS).

  18. In the HTTP Server and HTTPS Server Names, provide a name of up to 255 characters for one or both of these Proxy Servers, according to the network. A fully qualified domain name or IP address can be used.

    NOTE: Make sure DNS Server details are configured correctly if you use domain names.

  19. Enter the required Port Number. The default is 8080 and is the Internet Assigned Network Authority (IANA) recognized proxy port.

  20. If the proxy server requires authentication, click the [Authentication: Enabled]box and enter the Login Name and Password to provide authentication to the proxy server.

  21. Click [Apply]. A "Settings have been Changed" message will display.

  22. Register with the Xerox Communication Server.  Navigate to Properties > General Setup > SMart eSolutions > Registration.

  23. Click [Register with Xerox Communication Server].

  24. Click the [Enabled] box to enable Server Communication.

  25. In the Transmission Time boxes, enter the required time for the transmission of the machine data to the Xerox host. The Transmission Time is based on a 24 hour schedule.

  26. Click [Apply]. A "Settings have been Changed" message will display.

  27. Navigate to Properties > General Setup > SMart eSolutions > Registration.  Click the [Test Communication Now] button to check your configuration.

  28. A dialog box will display the status of the communication.

    • If the message "Download Problem detected during the download process. Please try again" is displayed, check the settings and retry. If the problem persists, contact Support for additional assistance.  In the Communication Log area, you can view the status of the device’s transmissions to Xerox, along with the date and time of the transmission.

    • If the message "Communication Successful, Device diagnostic information successfully sent to Xerox" is displayed, click [Back], then click [Save Changes]. Setup is complete. No other action is required. In the Communication Log area, you can view the status of the device’s transmissions to Xerox, along with the date and time of the transmission.
