Remote Services is a suite of features that simplify printer ownership and administration. It provides free services to enable administration of metered billing and supplies replenishment plans for printers on a network.
Before you begin, if your network uses an HTTP proxy server, obtain the information about your proxy server.
To Enable and Configure Remote Services Upload
Step 1: Configure Proxy Server Settings (if your network uses an HTTP proxy server)
NOTE: In most environments, a Proxy Server is not required for Internet connections. Contact your System Administrator if you are unsure if your network requires one.
- Access the printer's Embedded Web Server and log in as a System Administrator.
- From your computer or network-connected device (on the same network as the printer) open a Web browser.
- In the Web browser address field, enter the IP address of your printer and then press Enter. The Embedded Web Server home page will be displayed.
- Click on the Log In button at the top, right of the page. The User Accounts window will be displayed.
- Click on admin.
- Enter the System Administrator password in the field provided, and then click on the Log In button.
Note: Depending on when the device was manufactured, the default password may be the device serial number or 1111.
- Click Connectivity.
- For Protocols, click HTTP.
- To enable a Proxy Server, for Proxy Server, click the toggle button.
NOTE: A check mark on the toggle button indicates that the setting is enabled. - To set the configuration type, click Setup and select an option:
- If your proxy server uses automatic configuration, select Automatic.
- If your proxy server uses a configuration script, select Configuration Script. Type the URL to locate the configuration script.
- If your proxy server uses manual configuration, select Manual, then configure the settings. For assistance, contact your system administrator.
- Click OK.
Step 2: Enable Remote Services
- Access the printer's Embedded Web Server and log in as a System Administrator.
- From your computer or network-connected device (on the same network as the printer) open a Web browser.
- In the Web browser address field, enter the IP address of your printer and then press Enter. The Embedded Web Server home page will be displayed.
- Click on the Log In button at the top, right of the page. The User Accounts window will be displayed.
- Click on admin.
- Enter the System Administrator password in the field provided, and then click on the Log In button.
Note: Depending on when the device was manufactured, the default password may be the device serial number or 1111. - Click System.
- Click Remote Services Upload.
- To enable Remote Services Upload, click Enable.
- To send billing and supplies information from the printer, click Upload Now.
- To allow the printer to request data from Xerox, click Download Data.
- Click Settings.
- To synchronize the printer with the Xerox Remote Services datacenter, in the Schedule Upload area, type the time of day to upload the billing and supplies information. Use 24-hour format.
- To configure email notifications for remote services, in the Email Notifications area:
- Select the events when you want to receive notification.
- Type up to five email addresses to receive the notifications.
- Click OK.
Step 3: Test the Connection to the Xerox Remote Services Datacenter
- Access the printer's Embedded Web Server and log in as a System Administrator.
- Click System > Remote Services Upload.
- For Remote Services, click Settings.
- Click Test Connection. If communication is successful, a status message appears.
- Click Close.
- Click OK.
